Ed Gregory quoted Plato (Phaedrus) in his letter of July 10 concerning “the great orator in the White House”: “In good speaking, should not the mind of the speaker know the truth of the matter about which he is to speak?”

Might I add an additional quote from philosopher Plato (The Republic)? “The rulers of the state are the only ones who would have the privilege of lying, either at home or abroad; they may be allowed to lie for the good of the State”.

We are truly a people plagued by sound bytes; aren’t we?
