I write tonight (July 16, 2019) to express my disgust with the Republican party. Tonight was a night of infamy. Tonight, the Republican party officially became the party of racism by voting to support the president’s racist attack on four Americans. Four Americans who happen to be members of the House of Representatives. Four Americans who were elected by the people of their districts for where they stand on the issues.

The president attacked them, not on the basis of his disagreements with them, but on the basis of their color and ethnicity. He charged that these patriotic Americans hated the country because they disagree with him, and because they want to work to further the fulfillment of all that America stands for: life, liberty and the pursuit of justice.

It is he who hates America and invites us to join him in his brand of anti-Americanism. All Americans, Democrats and Republicans should stand together against this blatant attack on American values, and only after bringing the president to account should we return to partisan politics concerned with the policies about which we disagree.
