Dick’s Auto survived the power of the rally cap to grab an 11-5 win over Rotary in Little League action at James H. Salevan Field in Athol on Wednesday.
The game was an interleague matchup with Dick’s Auto coming from Orange Little League and Rotary playing out of the Chuck Stone League.
Sam Connors got the win on the mound with four strikeouts in three innings.
Dick’s Auto jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Madix Whitman stole home base. Rotary answered in the bottom of the first when Branden Engelke-Aiken doubled before an RBI single by Alex Blunck. Dick’s Auto stretched out the lead when Luke Connors smacked an RBI double in the top of the second. Carter Talbot had a hit in the second for Rotary.
Dick’s Auto added more runs in the third when Hunter Brooks’ base-knock scored a run. Lian Lopez had a single in the inning. Rotary’s Aidan Barilone led off the bottom of the third with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Engelke-Aiken. A running, shoestring catch by Brooks in center field took away extra bases. Aiden Britt sent a screaming triple to left-center in the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch. Wyatt Whitman tripled in the top of the six for Dick’s Auto.
Down 11-2, the rally caps came out for Rotary. Dillon Laffond led off with a single before Clayde Thompson and Talbot walked to load the bases. An Aidan McNamara dribbler to the mound scored a run, followed by Wyatt Girard who drew a walk with the bases full. Barilone added an RBI groundout before Brooks closed out Rotary on the mound.
On the mound for Rotary was Blunk who struck out five batters followed by Laffond who struck out four. Wyatt Whitman relieved Sam Connors and struck out four.
Mohawk Youth
Joe Mason was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Justin Lent drove in a pair, and Nicholas Spencer tossed a pair of scoreless innings to help Charlemont knock off Rowe, 16-3, in a Mohawk Youth League Minors playoff game, Wednesday.
Kameron Crowningshield and Josh Lively made key defensive plays for Rowe, while Camden Cousineau added a hit.
• In other playoff action, Amasa Shippee paced a stout defensive effort behind the plate, Levi Clark pitched three strong innings to earn the win and Brenton Russell did the job at first base to help Ashfield clip the Buckland/Shelburne Padres, 8-6.
Logan Bisson struck out nine and went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Padres. Cody Dubreuil struck out four and Wesley Jenks went 2-for-4.
FC Babe Ruth League
Gillis MacDougall controlled action from the mound, striking out 16 in 6 2/3 no-hit innings to help Turners Falls Athletic Club to a 10-0 win over Parody Builers in a Franklin County Babe Ruth League baseball game Wednesday night at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.
Luc Belhumeur, Mike Pierce, Tyler Cusson, Noah Uzdavinis and Will Ainsworth all had hits for TFAC, with Uzdavinis doubling and driving in a run. Pierce also recorded an RBI.
Parody’s TJ Thibeault had the lone hit for his team in the bottom of the seventh.
Frontier Cal Ripken
Will Johnson and Margaret Edwards each delivered two-run singles to help Frontier’s Yankee Candle edge Greenfield’s New Fortune, 8-6, in an interleague 50/70 baseball game played Wednesday night at Lunt Field in Greenfield.
Mason Thornton earned the win, striking out three, and added a hit with two runs scored for Yankee Candle. Owen Babb and CJ Hannum combined for eight strikeouts over five innings, while Harry Laflamme (two runs) and Thomas Unkles (hit, run) aided the cause.
New Fortune’s Heath Gomez had two hits and a run, with Jayden Hunter also scoring a run. Brayden Arsenault (two hits, run) and Ethan Quinn (run) were other contributors.
Newt Guilbault
Jaiden Lapointe finished with three hits, including a walk-off single, as Booska’s Flooring edged Turners Falls Athletic Club, 9-8, in an extra-inning Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game played Wednesday night in Turners Falls.
Zaydrien Alamed totaled two hits, including an inside-the-park home run, while Hunter Stacy also had a hit for Booska’s. Nolyn Stafford and Darian Burnett combined to strike out 10 in seven innings of work.
TFAC’s Alex Knapp, who had three hits, continued to utilize the long ball, as his second-inning home run tied the game at 5-5. Sammy Studlein struck out three in three innings, while Matt Field recorded seven strikeouts. Jordan Sullivan-Paulino tripled for TFAC.
• Elsewhere, close games were the theme of the night in the Newt Guilbault League, as St. Kazimierz Society pulled out an 8-7 win over Greenfield Savings Bank on Wednesday.
Kainen Stevens was 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs in addition to punching out six batters in six innings on the mound for St. Kaz. Matthew Guilbault played well defensively in right field, catcher Braydon Talbot had a base hit and a key out on a runner at third base, shortstop Zavyey Nieves stayed hot at the plate going 3-for-4, while left fielder Jayden Sanchez came through with a clutch out in the fifth.
GSB’s Mason Lehtomaki had a great game pitching in relief and at the plate, as he was 2-for-3 in addition to a four-strikeout performance. Everett Eichorn smacked a single to right and Ethan Eichorn struck out four and singled twice.
Orange LL
Gavin Young and Jayden Delgado split time on the mound for Orange Legion in a 13-4 win over the Athol Lions at Muzzey Field on Wednesday.
Delgado pitched two scoreless inning for Orange Legion At the plate, Delgado went 3-for-3 with an inside the park homer.
GGSL
Kylee Gamache stepped into the pitching circle, striking out five in three innings, and she added two hits, including a triple, to go with three RBIs as Pipione’s Sport Shop edged Gilmore & Farrell Insurance, 20-18, in Greenfield Girls Softball League Ponytail action, Wednesday at Murphy Park.
Cordelia Guerin’s grand slam was part of a four-hit night as she paced the Pipione’s offensive effort. Mackenzie Clark (hit, three RBIs), Sophia Pinardi (winning pitcher), Shelby O’Leary (three hits, six RBIs) and Shayla Freeland (three hits, three RBIs) were other standouts on the night.
Gilmore & Farrell received five strikeouts in the circle from Jenna Petrowicz. Shylan Luippold struck out one and Avery Savage drove in four runs.
• In Lil Nippers action Wednesday, Chloe Bigelow’s four hits propelled the Purple Panthers to a 9-0 win over Harper’s Store.
Emilie Cleveland, Ivy Lopez and Tilly Dulles all registered three hits for the Panthers. Riley Dyer and Lexi Hawkins had two hits apiece for Harper’s.
Hilltown League
Ketsley Lopez-Velez smacked the game-winning single, driving in Kay Tanner as the Hawlemont Pumas edged the Colrain Cougars, 13-2, in a seven-inning Hilltown League softball game played Wednesday night.
Makayla Tatro hit for the cycle and drove in four runs for Hawlemont, while teammate Maggie Danek smacked two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Colrain’s Amber Taylor was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Avery Hager was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Monique Hadley and Grace Hager registered two hits apiece.
Greenfield Co-Rec
Mike Cole smacked four hits to go with five RBIs, and The Hangar Pub & Grill defeated Main Street Bar & Grille, 14-9, in Greenfield Adult Co-Rec League softball action, Wednesday night.
Stephanie Winslow continued her offensive tear with a 3-for-4 night in the victory, while Vinny Natale was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Josh Johnson added three hits.
Ben Morgan homered for Main Street, and Alexa Habich had a hit.
• Elsewhere, Matt Orrell went 5-for-5 and scored five runs, Morghan Orrell was 4-for-5 with two runs, and Brian Sicard was 4-for-5 to send Riff’s North to a 15-6 win over Taylor’s Tavern.
K of C League
Ken Mitzkovitz and Jeremy Roussell tied for first place with a plus-6 point quota, leading the way at the Knights of Columbus Golf League played Wednesday at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Steve Russo and Mike Curry were tied for third at plus-5.
Closest to the pin winners were Dave Dion (No. 7, 8-2) and Jeremy Dillensneider (No. 9, 12-0). Skins winners were Roussell, Kent McGahan, Jim Herzig and Kevin Brown.
Greenfield Elks
Dave McDonald and Keith Schempp are atop the standings with 40 points after seven weeks of the Country Club of Greenfield’s Elks League, Wednesday.
Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski are tied for second with Bob Ferris and Vinnie Melendez, as both teams are right behind with 39½. Closest to the pin on Wednesday was Mike Duclos at 16 feet.
Thomas Ladies
Jane Smith registered a plus-11 point quota to earn the top spot in Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Ladies League.
Marilyn Kostanski was next at plus-7, followed by Kate Dwyer at plus-6.
Karren Sacco was closest to the pin at 6-3, while the team best ball score of 34 was achieved by Smith, Mary Ellen Fydenkevez, Donna Mowry and Joanne McGowan.
WMass FC tryouts
Western Mass. FC/Bayside will be holding Premier soccer tryouts for birth years 2002-2007 on Monday at Holyoke High School, Tuesday at Four Rivers Charter School in Greenfield, and Wednesday at Ellerbrook Field in Northampton.

YMCA camp
The YMCA in Greenfield is offering a drop-in summer program that focuses on skill development, fun and exercise. The program is open to boys and girls in grades 8-12. The cost is quite low, $30 for the summer ($20 if you are a member of the Y) and offers air conditioning and a high-quality facility.

Greenfield Cup
The Greenfield Tennis Cup, sponsored by Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters, will be held June 17-20 at the Beacon Street Courts.
There will be separate men’s and women’s divisions, for players ages 16 and older. Singles, best-of-three set matches will start at 5:30 p.m. each night.
