GREENFIELD – A woman was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon after the car she was driving collided with a box truck at the intersection of Wells and Allen streets.
The nature of the injuries was unknown and the accident’s cause was still under investigation, Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan and Lt. Peter McIver said at the scene. McIver said the driver’s side door was heavily damaged, but most of the vehicular damage visible was caused by the use of the Jaws of Life to free the woman from the car. Wells Street was closed. It was reopened at 12:47 p.m.
The box truck, apparently belonging to the Joseph Freedman Co., Inc., also sustained damage. According to its website, the Springfield company recycles metals. A call to the company’s human resources department was not returned by press time.
The car the victim was driving came to a stop on the sidewalk outside the Greenfield Public Works building. Koch’s Automotive left with the car at 12:44 p.m.
AMR Ambulance also responded to the scene. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.
