DEERFIELD – A river corridor mapping workshop is scheduled for today at the Deerfield Department of Public Works building at 1 Merrigan Way.

The workshop will last from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to educate people on how to build flood resiliency against future storms. It is hosted by the Franklin Conservation District and led by Dr. John Field, described as an expert on river hazards. There is no fee.

A preliminary schedule includes a 8:30 a.m. check-in, with coffee and snacks provided, presentations at 9 a.m., a stream table exercise at 11 a.m., a light lunch provided at noon, a 12:30 p.m. discussion on topics from various communities, and site visits from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Highway Facility Committee to hold public info session

CONWAY – The Highway Facility Committee plans to hold a public information session Saturday about two Town Meeting warrant articles pertaining to the highway facility building project. The session will be in the Town Hall’s general purpose room from 9 a.m. to noon.

All committee members will be there to present and discuss visual materials and handouts on their deliberation process, the design and construction, the constraints, and opportunities. Questions and suggestions are welcome.

The committee will also be at the pre-Town Meeting dessert potluck and community discussion slated for May 6 and at Town Meeting on May 13.

Deerfield 350th Committee to meet May 8

DEERFIELD – The Deerfield 350th Steering Committee plans to hold a public outreach meeting May 8, 5 to 7 p.m. in the Deerfield Municipal Building.

Committee members will be present to gather ideas and discuss current and future volunteer opportunities.

Deerfield will turn 350 years old in 2023.

Deerfield election on May 6

DEERFIELD – The Deerfield annual election will be held May 6, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Polls will be in the Deerfield Municipal Building at 8 Conway St.

There are three contested races.

Sunderland election set for Saturday

SUNDERLAND – The annual Sunderland election is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 4.

Polls will be at Sunderland Elementary School.

There are no contested races, but there is one question on the ballot. The question asks if Sunderland will be allowed by voters to assess an additional $200,000 in real estate and personal property taxes via a Proposition 2½ override to fund the operating budgets of the town and its public school for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Sunderland announces Riverside Park opening celebration

SUNDERLAND – An opening celebration for Sunderland Riverside Park is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on School Street on July 13.

There will be activities, games, guided walks, and food. The finale will be a concert by The Nields, a folk duo.

Local musicians, craftspeople and other volunteers are encouraged to join in. Do nations are accepted.
