The Fiddle Orchestra of Western Massachusetts has organized “An Evening of (Mostly) David Kaynor Tunes” to celebrate the Montague Center resident’s exceptional contribution to music-making.
The free event will start Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Montague Congregational Church, 4 North St. in Montague.
The Fiddle Orchestra of Western Massachusetts formed in the fall of 2017 and has grown steadily under the musical leadership of Kaynor and Annika Amstutz. Together, they bring a wide range of musical influences to broaden the experience of both the listener and player.
Kaynor, who was recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), has devoted limitless time and energy to the teaching, playing and composing of fiddle music. The Fiddle Orchestra will be showcasing a variety of his compositions, from toe-tapping jigs and reels, to many of his moving waltzes.
All are welcome to bring an acoustic instrument and join Kaynor and the orchestra to perform his song, “The Montague Processional,” a crowd favorite. Refreshments and a jam session led by Kaynor and friends will follow the concert.
