MONTAGUE — Members of Franklin County Technical School’s chapter of the Massachusetts Future Farmers of America Association warmed things up on a chilly day recently when they donated 20 blankets to the Montague Police Department.

The students made the colorful blankets while they were at the Massachusetts FFA Association state convention in Sturbridge. The blankets were made by tying two pieces of fleece together as part of the Massachusetts FFA Association’s Knots for Neighbors Project.

The police department will put the blankets in cruisers to help keep victims warm during emergencies, such as car accidents or fires.

“Some of the blankets have children’s patterns on them,” said Lieutenant Chris Bonnett. “We could use them for something as simple as keeping a child warm. This is very much appreciated by us. Something like this is an example of the little things that you don’t work into the budget but come in handy when you need them.”

The FFA regularly performs community service projects like this one. Franklin Tech’s chapter of the FFA has 16 members.

“It feels really good to donate and be a part of the community and to help,” said Summer Gaudreau, an FFA member from Wendell.

In addition to making a contribution to the community, the students enjoyed making the blankets.

“They’re naturally fun to make and to be able to do it with your friends,” said Addison Stacy, of Erving.
