Poets, memoir writers and fiction writers are invited to participate in an eight-week writing practice course led by Greenfield author and poet Mary Clare Powell.

The course begins Wednesday in the Greenfield Public Library’s Greenfield Meeting Room, and runs weekly through May 22, with no class on April 10. Each session is held from 2 to 4 p.m.

All writers are encouraged to participate, whether they have writing projects underway or are just beginning, according to a Greenfield Public Library press release. The class will start with writing prompts and move into small groups to share and give feedback. Participants will learn to develop a practice of writing, and to both receive and offer helpful feedback to other writers.

Powell, who has lived in the Pioneer Valley for more than 30 years, is author and editor of “The Arts, Education and Social Change” and co-author of “This Way Daybreak Comes: Women’s Values and the Future,” based on interviews with women who create alternatives of all kinds in our culture. She has also written several books of poetry including “Academic Scat” and “Everyday Ecstasy.”

Powell has a new manuscript of poems about aging in the works, and is currently working with elders who want to write the stories of their lives.

Registration for Powell’s course is required by visiting the library’s adult circulation desk or by calling 413-772-1544. The class will be limited to 20 participants.
