I take exception to Mr. John H. Shippee Jr.’s characterization of donkeys. These are not stupid or stubborn animals. They process experiences and make decisions (though not as humans do).
They will not return to or repeat negative experiences (unless beaten) and they trust handlers if they are constant and kind. They are loyal and social animals.
Perhaps that is the analogy Mr. Shippee should consider when comparing donkeys to Democrats, who are trying to defend democracy in a dystopian new political world.
