You can’t stop Amber Bergeron, you can only hope to contain her.
Such was the case Tuesday, as the Greenfield Middle School star poured in a whopping 45 points to help her team edge Bement School, 60-56, in a barnburner of a middle school contest played in Greenfield.
GMS needed every one of Bergeron’s points in the tight win. Teammates Carly Blanchard (8 points) and Maggie Provencal (6) also came through with key buckets, and the defensive effort led by Maddie Hayes and Anna Bucala came up big as well.
Greenfield is back in action Friday when it hosts Great Falls Middle School.
Greenfield SL captures win
Caleb Johnston notched a team-high 11 points to help Greenfield defeat Amherst, 40-27, in a Suburban League grades 5 and 6 boys basketball game Tuesday night in Greenfield.
Jackson Campbell added 8 points and Grayson Thomas had 7 points.
• In action over the weekend, Jerry Ven posted a double-double, and Greenfield captured a 54-41 win over Mohawk, Saturday afternoon.
Ven went for 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Greenfield. Campbell added 10 points, while Gabe Mota tossed in 8.
Mohawk’s Jonathan Breor had 14 points to pace his club.
FCHA ties, wins
Caedmon Leblanc scored what appeared to be the game-winning goal in the third period, but host Holy Name Green equalized with just 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining to earn a 1-1 tie with Franklin County Hockey Association Greenfield Savings Bank Squirt Green in a Greater Springfield League contest Sunday at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.
Braedon Talbot and Hayden Ardrey played well defensively to help FCHA goaltender Jay McGinnis, who made 14 saves.
• Elsewhere, behind a pair of goals and an assist from Billy Woodall, Gilmore & Farrell and Dillon Chevrolet FCHA Bantam Green picked up a tight 5-4 victory over Keene in an independent hockey game Saturday at Keene Ice Arena.
Matt Provençal, Sam Knight and Hunter Smith all found the back of the net to help FCHA snag the victory. Eathon Bryant, Chris Phelps, Matt Lavoine and Dylan Archer each added assists.
Trevor Parkinson made 21 saves in net for the winners.
