BERNARDSTON — One person was arraigned Monday on several motor vehicle charges following a weekend crash that injured three others.

A vehicle was parking at the Corner Country Store by the intersection of Church and Center streets shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, when a fast-moving southbound vehicle crashed into it, according to a statement on the Bernardston Police Department’s Facebook page.

The vehicle that was struck was “forced into the middle of the road,” while the southbound vehicle traveled over the sidewalk before hitting a residence, according to police.

Both occupants of the struck vehicle were injured, as well as a pedestrian, and all three were transferred to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield for evaluation. According to police, the injured parties are expected to recover and have assisted police in investigating the crash.

Corey B. Stafford was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, negligent driving, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation. Stafford was arraigned in Greenfield District Court, with the state requesting $500 bail.

The Bernardston Fire Department, Gill Police Department, Northfield Emergency Medical Services and American Medical Response assisted.

Bernardston police are seeking witnesses to the crash, which remains under investigation, and requested those with information call 413-648-9208 or email Sgt. John Richardson at bpdsergeant2@townofbernardston.org.
