BUCKLAND — There were no reported injuries Tuesday morning after State Police say a pickup traveling east on Route 2 struck an officer’s private vehicle parked on the side of the road and sent it into a guardrail before the pickup careened across the road and smashed into a car parked in the Shelburne Falls Veterinary Hospital parking lot at 3 Mohawk Trail.
State Trooper Christopher Titi said operator error caused the accident, though he declined to release the names of people involved, saying he did not want to “add insult to injury.”
The 911 call came in at 9:47 a.m. Titi said the officer was directing traffic around work DeLucca Fence Company of Methuen was conducting on the guardrail. The officer’s personal vehicle and the Toyota Prius struck in the parking lot were towed by Stagecoach Auto Repair of Charlemont. The front end of the officer’s car was demolished and the Toyota had damage, including a smashed side view mirror, to its driver’s side.
Maria Stuart, 59, of Plainfield, is the owner of the Toyota and had brought her cat to the veterinary hospital. She said she did not see or hear the accident because she was in an examination room when it occurred.
