Greenfield council should ban plastic bags

I encourage the Greenfield Town Council to do the right thing and ban plastic bags at its Dec. 19 meeting. It is such a small thing to do in this era of climate change. We don’t need more of these bags polluting our rivers, streams ,woods and along roadsides. The majority of people that use these bags do not recycle them and they end up in landfills etc…

I recently shopped at a grocery store in Brattleboro to discover that the town recently banned plastic bags. It doesn’t seem to be a big deal there. The world did not come crashing down. They did offer paper bags for 15 cents, but also sell the reusable grocery bags. The reusable bags are everywhere now; there is no excuse not to use them. Many places/organizations give them away. I have used them for years now and it is just a matter of making it a habit.
