As part of the third annual Western Massachusetts Flute Day, astronaut Catherine “Cady” Coleman of Shelburne will speak about playing flute in outer space.

Coleman’s presentation, called “Being Brave: Courage to Play,” will be held Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Fine Arts Center, 151 Presidents Drive in Amherst.

Coleman will speak about her time onboard the International Space Station, having a lesson with Sir James Galway and playing a duet with Ian Anderson — all from outer space.

Other Flute Day events include clinics and classes with flute faculty member Cobus du Toit and guest flutists Jill Felber and Julianna Nickel; a master class with Felber, Angeleita Floyd and Claudia Anderson; mini lessons by Dr. Lea Pearson; and a performance by du Toit, Nickel, the UMass Flute Ensemble and guest artist ZAWA!

Tickets to Flute Day are $20 in advance or $30 on the day of the event.
