Athol author J.R. Greene has released the 34th edition of his Quabbin History calendar, featuring 12 photos from the villages destroyed to create the Quabbin Reservoir in the 1930s. This year’s edition brings the total number of photos in the calendar series to more than 400, including many from the villages taken for the parallel Ware River diversion project. The photos include two views from 1939 depicting events in Enfield just before the valley was flooded. Also included are views of stores, railroad stations, a school and a factory. Two views show winter scenes.
The calendars, $14.95 each, are on sale at the following: Larry’s Variety in Athol; Pocket Saver Market in Erving; Federal Street Books and World Eye Bookshop in Greenfield; and the New Salem General Store in New Salem. They can also be ordered directly from the author. Contact him by email at: jrg01331@webtv.net.
