After a dominant regular season that saw them post a 12-2-1 overall record, the Deerfield Academy field hockey team was selected as the No. 6 seed in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament and will open its postseason Wednesday with a quarterfinal game against Convent of the Sacred Heart.
The third-seeded Tigers will host the Big Green in Greenwich, Conn. at 2:15 p.m. The two teams have not met this season.
Deerfield has put together a dominant season, scoring 57 goals while allowing just 14. The team’s two losses came by identical 1-0 margins to St. Paul’s School and Greenwich Academy. Sacred Heart just beat the same Greenwich Academy team, 2-1 in overtime, in the FAA Field Hockey Tournament final.
South Deerfield’s Maggie Roche and Hannah Roche are on the DA roster.
• The DA volleyball team is also postseason-bound in the Class A bracket.
The Big Green earned the No. 8 seed and open with a quarterfinal road game against top-seeded St. Paul’s School Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Deerfield is 9-9 on the season and will look to bounce back after losing its final seven matches of the season after a 9-2 start.
Sunderland’s Georgia Quesnelle, an outside hitter, is a team captain for DA this season.
NMH postseason slate
Both Northfield Mount Hermon School soccer teams will play in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament.
The boys soccer team is seeded sixth and will open with a quarterfinal game against No. 3 Loomis Chaffee Wednesday at 2.
The Hoggers (11-3-2) have a local player on the squad in Sunderland’s Keel Brissett.
On the girls side, NMH is the No. 8 seed and opens on the road at No. 1 Noble & Greenough Wednesday at 2.
After an 8-6-3 regular season, the Hoggers enter the postseason looking to pull the upset. There are several local faces on the squad. Ashfield’s Ashley LaCross, who previously starred at Mohawk, is joined by Bernardston’s Lily van Baaren and Orange’s Mary Parse.
• Led by Leyden’s Richard Sturtevant, the NMH boys cross country team won the NEPSTA Division 1 Cross Country title Saturday in Avon, Conn.
Sturtevant was third overall to pace the Hoggers, crossing the line in 15:47. Ryan Heskin was fifth overall (15:58).
