It’ll be Thursday Night Lights at Veterans Memorial Field.
Greenfield High School takes to the gridiron a day early, as the Green Wave host Putnam tonight at 6 p.m. in their first of two non-qualifier games.
The visiting Beavers (1-7) have lost six games in a row entering tonight’s affair, though they have played a very difficult slate with games against playoff-bound teams in East Longmeadow (46-6 loss), Wahconah (28-14), South Hadley (34-26) and Minnechaug (37-12). Putnam’s lone win this season came against Agawam, 16-0, in Week 2.
Greenfield (5-3) will have to bounce back and refocus after a disappointing 20-0 loss to Belchertown last week kept the Wave out of the WMass Div. 8 playoffs.
It’s been a decade since the two programs last met. That came in 2008, when both teams were members of the Intercounty League. The Beavers won that meeting, 42-14, in a game where Greenfield quarterback Shawn Parsons threw two touchdowns to pace the visitors in Springfield.
The rest of the non-qualifier games, as well as the two local playoff games (Hoosac at Turners and Frontier at South Hadley) are still set for Friday night at 7.
