Susan W. recently wrote a My Turn in response to a “deplorables” My Turn. She gave a much more measured and thoughtful response than I was drafting. As such, I’ll just add a few points: re:
(9) How much is Trump’s net worth is highly up for debate, as he is known for hyperbole and there are few facts to support that, like many of his other claims. More important is his claims for earning that wealth: there is a old joke in the business field: the quickest way to create a million dollar business, is to start with two, or in his case 100;
(10) at one time, a good percentage of the world thought it was flat especially those in religious power, while some, especially sailors, knew the facts supported a round earth. Just because many agree with you still does not make you right.
And a final note, Susan alluded to “love it or leave it” – let me adjust to the similar and oft misquoted phrase “my country right or wrong” – the whole quote is: “My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.” and that will take all of us.
