Lucia Doulette legged out an infield single, scoring MacKenzie Paulin from second base with two outs to lift the Valley Storm 12U softball team to a walk-off 9-8 victory over the Central Mass. VooDoo Sunday in Leominster Lassie League Fall Ball action.

Doulette finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead the Storm. Ashley Taylor had a double and an RBI, Sofia Holden and Sophia Pinardi each had a hit and an RBI, and Amelia Pierce and Anna Bucala both chipped in with a hit.

Paulin drew the start and pitched one inning in the circle. Madison Liimatainen pitched an inning and struck out one and Holden tossed the final two innings surrendering zero runs and striking out three batters for the win.

• In other Valley Storm action, the 16U team captured an 8-1 win over the Southampton Heat on Sunday at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton.

Courtney Dunham picked up the victory in the circle, with offensive contributions from Mandy Fuller (single, double), Reagan Dupre (two singles), Meagan Healey (double, two RBIs), Dunham (double, RBI), Kelsey Richardson (double, RBI), Julia Gauvin (single, RBI), Kat Hioe (single), Kaitlin Lavoine (single), Chloe Vogul (single) and Sarah Champigny (single).

Youth football

F.C. Bulldogs beat Frontier

Gavin Arsenault broke the century mark with 109 yards rushing and a touchdown, helping the Franklin County Bulldogs to an 18-8 win over Frontier in a Suburban League Peewee Division football game Sunday in South Deerfield.

Davian Bala rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown in the victory, while Owen Hill ran for the other Bulldogs TD.

Hill, Dustin Reade and D’Angelo Brown contributed three tackles apiece for Franklin County. Brown recovered a fumble and Arsenault intercepted a pass, while Jaxon Silva, Jonathan Ainsworth and Bala recorded two tackles each. Julian James also had a tackle in the win.

Youth baseball

F.C. Green edged by Westfield

Gillis MacDougall drove in two runs and Joey White added another, but Franklin County Green dropped a 7-6 decision to Westfield No. 1 in a Babe Ruth Fall Baseball League game Sunday at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

Jack Vecellio scored a pair of runs, and Miles Ferriera added a hit and a run scored. MacDougall struck out 7 in 3 2/3 innings of work, while Grayson Loos notched four strikeouts in two innings of action.

• In Saturday action, White and MacDougall had two hits apiece, but host Franklin County Green dropped a 9-5 decision to Westfield Blue No. 2 at Abercrombie Field.

White scored three runs and MacDougall drove in a pair to pace the offense. Vecellio had a hit, two runs and a pair of RBIs in his first game of the season, while Dan Diemand added a hit and an RBI.

MacDougall struck out five in three innings of work on the mound. Loos and Michael Pierce each struck out a batter in their pitching stints.

Pioneer wins

David Carey, Cayden Lehtomaki and Jason Quinn combined to strike out 12 batters while allowing just three hits for Pioneer Stone Seals/Travel Kuz in a 12-0 shutout of Westfield No. 1 in a High School Fall Baseball League game Sunday at Beacon Field in Greenfield.

Lehtomaki smacked an inside-the-park home run and added a single to go with three RBIs for Pioneer. Dalton Henderson singled, tripled and scored three runs, while Nate Sciandra and Corbin Leh each had two singles and an RBI. Carey tripled and drove in a run, Quinn doubled, James Robison and Hugh Cyhowski both singled and drove in a run, and Chris Miner and Jake Croteau each added a hit.

Colleges

O’Sullivan at Westfield State

Greenfield native Amy O’Sullivan finished 22nd overall, helping the Westfield State University women’s cross country team finish in 15th place out of 45 scoring teams at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday in North Dartmouth, Mass.

The freshman finished the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 9.52 seconds as the top Owl across the line.

Owls freshman Amy O’Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) turned in the top effort in 22nd place, in 19:09.52 across the women’s 5-kilometer course.

Brandeis College’s Emily Bryson was the individual winner from the field of 318 runners in 17:54.59. Brandeis won the team winner as well with a score of 56 points. Westfield finished with 480 points.

Boucias at Regis

Buckland’s Maddie Boucias finished 90th overall, good enough for the second-fastest finisher from Regis College as the women’s cross country team finished 31st on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.

Boucias traversed the course in 20 minutes, 20.51 seconds for Regis.

Regis finished in 31st place with 787 points.

Preps

It was a big day for the Deerfield Academy athletic department, which won all but two varsity games contested on Saturday.

The football team opened with a 28-18 win over Lawrenceville School (N.J.), beating the visitors for the second year in a row to open 1-0.

The field hockey team captured a 6-1 win over Berkshire School, while the boys soccer team edged Salisbury, 2-1, and the girls soccer team tied Milton Academy, 1-1.

The volleyball team swept matches against Milton Academy (3-0) and Miss Porter’s (3-1), while boys water polo defeated Choate, 7-5, and fell to Brunswick, 19-3.

Golf

CCG aces

Greenfield’s Sean Waldron notched his first-ever hole-in-one on Sunday, accomplishing the feat at Country Club of Greenfield.

Waldron used a pitching wedge from 120 yards out on the ninth hole at CCG. His witnesses were Nick Kocinski, Rich Young, Raye Young, Chris Varilly and Angie Varilly.

• Chris Eugin also sank a hole-in-one at CCG.

His 7-iron on the 125-yard 2nd hole proved to be the perfect club for an ace. Tony Wonseski, Liz Dolby and Jason Kelton were the witnesses for Eugin.

CCG Mixed Invitational

The tandem of Dean and Alia Godek shot 4-under 66 to capture first place at Sunday’s Mixed Invitational at the Country Club of Greenfield.

A pair of teams tied for first place with the low net of 56, as Terry and Ryan Blanchard tied with Pete Murphy and Kathy Nicoll at 14-under.

Tennis

GTA mixed doubles tourney

The team of Lissa and Alden Booth captured the top spot as the Greenfield Tennis Association held its inaugural Mixed Doubles Tournament Saturday at the Beacon Field Courts in Greenfield.

Eight teams participated in the round-robin event. Karen Bradway and Tim Prevost took the runner-up prize. Rounding out the field were Emelia and Chris Seaver, Rayna DiSciullo and Brian Lamore, Linda Chiasson and Kyle Maroni, Laurie and Mike Bassett, Alexis Silk and Brian Campbell, and Alyce Stiles and Marc LaPierre. Prizes for the winners were provided by Stop & Shop and Big Y.

Ice skating

Collins/Moylan public skating

Public skating at Collins/Moylan Arena in Greenfield is now underway. The hours run Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., as well as Fridays (7:30-9:30 p.m.), Saturdays (noon-2 p.m.) and Sunday (2-4).

Public skating is open to all ages. Admission is $6 (62-and-older free) and skate rental is $6.

Public hockey is Sundays from 4-5 p.m. This is open to players aged 18 and older, and costs $10 per player.
