WEST SPINGFIELD – State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that killed a Leverett man over the weekend.
Jay Rines, 53, of Leverett, who was operating the motorcycle, died.
The accident occurred Saturday around 5:40 p.m. on the ramp from Route 90 Eastbound to Exit 4.
State police report thus far in the investigation, it seems Rines was traveling on the Exit 4 ramp on a 2014 Yamaha when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed off the left side of the roadway, striking a sign pole.
State police report he was pronounced dead at the scene.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
State police were assisted by West Springfield Fire and EMS, Chicopee Fire and Mass. Department of Transportation.
