ERVING — Over the next several months, the French King Bridge between Gill and Erving will be receiving repairs to its expansion joints, but two-lane traffic will continue during the work.

“Work is being conducted in phases over the next several months in order to minimize impacts to traffic and local community,” according to Victoria Mier, communications assistant for Mass. Department of Transportation, which is doing the job.

“Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the work, and traffic shifts may be necessary at various times to ensure crews have space to safely conduct operations,” she said.

She added there may be periodic lane closures for “certain activities” on the bridge that spans the Connecticut River. The bridge, built in 1932, spans 782 feet and is 140 feet above the river.

The work is being funded by the state, but the estimated costs are not available at this time.
