Barre Players Theater is holding auditions for “A Christmas Carol” on Friday, Aug. 24, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Actors and actresses ages 17 and older may audition for Patrick Barlow’s fresh adaptation of Charles Dickens’ story, to be performed Nov. 29 through Dec. 9.

Ghost Light is holding auditions for its final show of 2018, “Sex With Strangers” by Laurie Eason, on Wednesday, Aug. 29 and Thursday, Aug. 30 starting at 7 p.m.

The play, directed by Kevin Tracy, follows the story of twenty-something sex blogger Ethan who tracks down his idol, forty-ish novelist Olivia. Performances will be held from Nov. 9 to Nov. 17.

Musicians

Valley Jazz Voices is holding an open rehearsal for singers interested in participating in the group’s fall season. The rehearsal will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz St. in Northampton.

Under the direction of Jeff Olmsted, Valley Jazz Voices sings a dynamic mix of jazz standards, contemporary arrangements and Brazilian jazz. Singers of all ages, levels and backgrounds are welcome. No reading or auditions are required, although familiarity with singing in an ensemble is helpful. There are opportunities for solos and small group ensembles.

Valley Jazz Voices rehearses weekly on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Senior Center from Sept. 6 to Dec. 27. The group performs four to five times a season at various locations in western Massachusetts accompanied by a professional jazz trio, including at First Night in Northampton on Dec. 31.

The fee to join is a sliding scale of $180 to $220, and $50 for students. A reduced fee is negotiable if the cost is prohibitive. For more information, email valleyjazzvoices@gmail.com.

The fall season of the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus will begin with open rehearsals on Sept. 5, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the All Souls Church, 29 South St. in Brattleboro, Vt., and on Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brattleboro Music Center, 72 Blanche Moyse Way in Brattleboro, Vt.

Rehearsals are open to women and girls over age 10. The chorus will be preparing for concerts on Nov. 17 and 18, and will include songs the chorus’ founder and director Becky Graber picked up while at the Sister Singers Festival in Michigan.

The Five College Early Music Program is holding auditions that are open to students, faculty and community members who are interested in singing or playing in one of more ensembles, including the Collegium Choir, Baroque Orchestra, medieval and Renaissance ensembles, and Voces Feminae.

The program also offers instruction on period instruments (recorders, sackbut, viol, lute, etc.) for modern players, in beginning ensembles and lessons. Credit is available for ensembles and lessons at Mount Holyoke Community College, the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Hampshire College.

Scripts

The Actors Theatre Playhouse of West Chesterfield, N.H., and Brattleboro, Vt., is accepting 10-minute play submissions for its Ten Minute Play Festival in June of 2019.

Ten-minute plays should include only one scene, have minimal scenic requirements, not exceed 10 to 12 pages in length and have two to six characters. Each contributor may submit up to two plays. Plays that have been produced previously are welcome, provided there are no encumbrances on them.

Scripts will be accepted through email at tenplays19@gmail.com until Sept. 30. Eight to 10 winners and alternates will be announced to all participants by early December.

No monetary prizes are awarded. Winners receive production of their play in the festival and multiple complimentary tickets.

Proposals

Eggtooth Productions is seeking proposals from artists for its 2019 Radical Interconnectedness Festival.

The production company invites stories that engage issues of race, age, gender, religion, economic class and other aspects of cultural identity that have been suppressed. A wide range of artistic expression will be considered such as music, dance, theatrical, visual, immersive and installation.

Commission is $500. Eggtooth will supply the venue, audience and promotions.

Footlights at the Falls is looking for help with its set and sound for the September production of “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder. Ushers will also be needed.

Vendors

The Bernardston Kiwanis Club is seeking artists, craftspeople and specialty food purveyors for its two-day Scarecrow in the Park event on Oct. 20 and 21.

The booth fee for the two-day weekend is $45 per 10-by-10-foot space and $70 for a 10-by-20-foot space. It is expected that artists will commit to the whole weekend, however, a limited number of single-day applications will be accepted at the full weekend price.
