Ashfield concerts to help Stand Up to Cancer

ASHFIELD — There will be two benefit concerts for Stand up to Cancer, which raises money for breakthrough cancer research. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. in Ashfield Community Hall, at 521 Main St.

On Sunday Aug. 19, Shelburne singer-songwriter Jim Egan will headline. His song, “Ain’t in No Hurry,” was featured on Jorma Kaukonen’s most recent album. The 56 String Duo, featuring Robert Markey on sitar and Andrew Jenkins on guitar, will be the opening performers.

On Sunday Aug. 26, Appalachian Still will headline the event, bringing their old time mountain music and bluegrass. Northampton’s F. Alex Johnson of the band Colorway (formerly guitarist for the band the Drunk Stuntmen), will be opening.

Tickets are $12 at the door.

Absentee ballots available in Hawley

HAWLEY — Absentee ballots are now available at the Town Office. You can come in to fill out an application for an absentee ballot or pick one up during town clerk hours on Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by appointment (413-339-4091).

Also, you can send a letter with your signature requesting a ballot to the Town Clerk, 8 Pudding Hollow Road, Hawley MA, 01339, to receive a ballot back by mail. There will be no early voting for this primary election, which takes place on Tuesday Sept. 4, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Town Office.

Ashfield assessors want property photos

ASHFIELD — The Board of Assessors, assistant assessor and representatives of the software developer, Patriot Properties, will be updating photos of all properties in town this summer and fall. The photos will be only the front of houses. This project must be complete by the fiscal year 2020 revaluation at the direction of the Department of Revenue, Division of Local Services.
