MONTAGUE — Things with wings, both literal and figurative, will be coming to downtown Turners Falls on Saturday as part of Fairy House Day on Avenue A. The day is filled with fantasy-themed events like decorating a fairy village, fairy crafts and mermaid story hour to get people excited about upcoming the local children’s television show “Lovelight.”
Beverley Ketch, who helped organize the event, said the television show project started as a group of friends who were working to make a children’s show about fairies that live in the planters in Turners Falls.
The nonprofit organization, Looky Here Inc., is making the show, Ketch said. The show is expected to premiere next spring.
“We want to get people acquainted with the television show. And to get people excited about what we do,” Ketch said.
Ketch said there will also be information for children who are interested in potentially being filmed for the show.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. at Spinner Park where children can create and decorate the fairy village.
At noon there will be a mermaid story hour at the Carnegie Library followed by a picnic at Peskeomskut Park at 1:30 p.m. As part of Fairy House Day, 20 monarch butterflies, donated by Magic Wings, will be released at Peskeomskut Park at 2 p.m.
To conclude the activities, at 3 p.m the staff of the Great Falls Discovery Center will be leading in more fairy crafts.
The Fairy House Day on Avenue A is free and appropriate for kids age four and up. “We’re great believers in fairies and it’s something a lot of people love,” Ketch said. “It’s fun to bring out folks that do, and introduce others to it, too.”
