WENDELL — In celebration of the founding 50 years ago of the Montague Farm commune, a program, “Fifty Years Later: From Communes to Community” is planned for Monday at Wendell Town Hall at 7 p.m.
The program, preceded by a 6 p.m. potluck dinner, will revisit the history of the founding of the Montague Farm “family,” with sister communes in Wendell and Guilford, Vt.
This special evening takes place following the reunion of the Montague Farm’s “New Age Family” by Marshall Bloom and others from the Liberation News Service.
Communal living and organic farming have been part of many Wendell residents’ lives — along with nonviolently fighting off nukes, chemical spraying, pipelines and more.
The open-ended program, including films and poetry, will explore the meaning of community, then and now.
The evening is co-sponsored by the Wendell Energy Committee and Wendell Agricultural Commission.
