The bleakest threat

The Nation magazine has recently printed an open letter signed by an array of public figures called “Common Ground: For Secure Elections and True National Security.” This is a common sense appeal to ease tensions between Russia and the U.S. Whoever is in the leadership of the two countries, on-going diplomacy between any and all nuclear powers should be permanent and required, with a goal of complete elimination world-wide.

Nukes remain a bleak threat to all of us whether the President is Obama or Trump. I never thought much of Nixon or Reagan but the last thing I would have done is protest their negotiations with Brezhnev or Gorbachev. It’s likely an understatement that any agreement between Donald Trump and Russia’s Putin will have its flaws, but would we prefer either threatening nuclear annihilation of the other?

Every election we are lectured about ‘lesser of two evils’. What is more evil than a nuclear standoff and/or an actual nuclear exchange?

The Franklin County Continuing the Political Revolution (Peace Committee) is sponsoring “The Hiroshima to Nagasaki 4 Day Vigil” at website hn4vigil.org. These grass roots efforts are a necessary part of a worldwide common sense movement to protect our children’s future from a bleak ominous panorama of an unlivable world whether by design of insane leaders or accident.
