Advocates of the write-in vote for Jo Comerford for our district’s Massachusetts senator continue to confirm her record of expansive leadership and accomplishments in the public sphere. This record is already available as in the July 19 Recorder’s My Turn by Thomas Lesser. However, I want to add my reflections from an interpersonal association with Jo.
Jo Comerford became director of the Western Massachusetts American Friends Service Committee when I was clerk (chair) of the board. She easily became a friend to us. She understood our concerns. She assisted us to prioritize our tasks. She became quickly informed and acquainted with the area’s human service projects and staff.
Her outreach quickly drew to our board energetic representation from diverse backgrounds. With her commitment to human rights, she guided us into coordinated action with others. Further, she inspired a variety of social action celebrations and recognitions by her genial and sharing presence. Jo’s personable sensitivity was fundamental to how we emerged and flourished at that time.
As the years have passed, it has been a pleasure to observe Jo continue to collaborate with others in many crucial issues of public life and individual needs. Who Jo is, as well as what she has accomplished, confirms my confidence to write-in Jo Comerford on the ballot for senator from the Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester District.
