CHARLEMONT — A car veered off Mountain Road Friday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.

The call came in around 2 p.m., and emergency crews responded to the rugged dirt road to find a silver Oldsmobile sedan about 20 feet down a wooded slope at the side of the road.

The car was apparently stopped by several large trees, and sustained damage to the front of the vehicle — most noticeably to the front tires, which were twisted inward.

Airbags were deployed, and skid marks were visible leading off the road.

A truck from Stagecoach Auto Repair dragged the vehicle up the hill and out of the woods with thick chains.

According to Charlemont Police Chief Jared Bellows, there were two occupants in the vehicle, one of whom, an adult, had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital, possibly with a head injury.

Bellows could not speak to the seriousness of the injury when contacted Friday afternoon.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and it is unclear how the accident occurred. The crash happened about a mile up Mountain Road, which has some winding, slightly steep areas. The accident remains under investigation.
