GREENFIELD — The General Pierce Bridge will be closed for repairs tonight into early Wednesday morning.
The closure of the bridge on Montague City Road, connecting Greenfield to the the village of Montague City is expected to run from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., the Greenfield Police Department announced Monday after being informed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
MassDOT is expected to work on the center area of the deck of the bridge that has endured a number of repairs in recent years.
Greenfield Police encourages residents to find an alternate route.
The White Bridge, which carries traffic on Turners Falls Road over the Connecticut River between Greenfield and Montague, is still closed. MassDOT reported in early May the bridge could be reopened in early July. Detour signs have guided vehicles over the Gill-Montague Bridge.
