MILFORD — A teacher is accused of touching himself inappropriately in front of a 17-year-old Walmart employee.
The Boston Globe reports 40-year-old Jared Anzelone was arraigned Wednesday on charges including open and gross lewdness and indecent exposure.
Police say Anzelone exposed and touched himself in front of a worker in the bathroom of the Bellingham store Monday.
A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf in Milford District Court. Attempts to reach Anzelone were not immediately successful.
Anzelone has been placed on leave from his job as a fourth-grade teacher at Woodland Elementary School in Milford.
District Superintendent Kevin McIntyre says the accusations are “very concerning” and that school officials are cooperating with authorities.
Anzelone was identified by teaching colleagues after police released surveillance photos from the Walmart.
YARMOUTH — A bone fragment recovered from a Cape Cod shipwreck is not from infamous pirate Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy after all.
The Whydah Pirate Museum in Yarmouth announced Thursday that DNA testing determined the bone was from a male with general ties to the Eastern Mediterranean area, but was not Bellamy.
The museum had enlisted forensic scientists to extract DNA from the bone fragment and compare it with DNA from a living Bellamy descendant.
The Whydah sank in 1717, taking 102 lives. Bellamy’s body was among 40 never found or identified.
The wreck was discovered in 1984. Most of its treasure is thought to remain on the ocean floor.
Forbes has listed Bellamy as the highest-earning pirate ever, plundering about $120 million worth of treasure.
FRAMINGHAM — A blind man authorities say beat his blind girlfriend and then struggled with officers trying to arrest him has been held without bail over the objections of his lawyer.
An attorney for Michael Crosby argued that holding the 52-year-old Ashland man pending a dangerousness hearing Thursday would be “unjust” given that he is blind and diabetic.
Prosecutors say police Tuesday found Crosby with his arm around his girlfriend’s throat.
Police pulled Crosby from her and shocked him with a stun gun. Prosecutors say Crosby punched an officer after knocking the stun gun from his hand.
He faces several charges including assault and battery on a disabled person.
Crosby’s attorney says his client blacked out from low blood sugar and has no memory of what happened.
PLAINVILLE — A member of the cleaning crew at a casino has been charged with trying to poison two co-workers she didn’t want to work with by pouring cleaning fluid into their sodas.
The Sun Chronicle reports that 23-year-old Alexandria Martel pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempted poisoning.
Police arrested the Attleboro woman Tuesday morning at Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, shortly after co-workers reported that their sodas had been tampered with while left unattended.
A 39-year-old man spit out his drink out after noticing a chemical taste. A 35-year-old woman said her drink tasted bad.
Police say Martel told them she didn’t like her co-workers and wanted to make then nauseous.
A lawyer who represented Martel at arraignment declined comment.
