Jenna Martin continued her strong start to the season, and Frontier Regional School remained undefeated Thursday.

The host Red Hawks improved to a perfect 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Suburban League with a 95-50 win over Monson High School in a Suburban girls’ track & field meet in South Deerfield.

Martin won three events to set the tone for Frontier. She was first in the 400-meter hurdles (76.3 seconds), while also capturing wins in the long jump (15 feet) and high jump (4 feet, 8 inches).

The Hawks won every field event except for the triple jump en route to the win. Reilly Isler won the javelin (87-8), Olivia Vecellio took first in the discus (93-5), Lexa Boyden captured the shot put (28-7¾) and Lilli Powers claimed the pole vault (7-3).

Sierra Warren was a winner for Frontier in the 200 meters (29.9), while Marisela Ackerman crossed first in the 400 (66.5).

The Red Hawks return to action Thursday when they tangle with league foe Belchertown High School.

Boys’ volleyball

Westfield 3, Athol 0 — A road trip to play the defending state champions made for a difficult day Thursday afternoon for Athol High School.

Host Westfield High School rolled through the first two sets and earned a sweep of the Red Raiders, 25-8, 25-8, 25-19, in an independent boys’ volleyball match in Westfield.

“We struggled with their serving, and especially their net play,” offered Athol coach Sean MacDonald of Westfield. “They have big blocks and several excellent hitters that are tall and have a high contact point that we just can’t simulate in practice.”

Athol (5-3) was held to just nine kills as a team in the loss. Justin Blake had four of them to pace the offense, while Anthony Potenti, Hayden Herk, Jordan Carrasquillo, Zach Aldridge and Colby Mason all totaled one kill. Colby Soltysik registered eight assists and Matt Willhite tossed in a pair of aces.

The loss ended a tough stretch of back-to-back matches against Westfield and Agawam High School that saw the Raiders drop all six total sets. Athol next heads to play Holyoke High School Monday evening.

“After playing the clear best two teams in the West this week, we are looking to have a good practice (today) to prepare for Holyoke on Monday,” MacDonald said.
