Baseball

FC Babe Ruth signups

The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League has added three more registration sessions for this week.

League officials will be at Turners Falls High School tonight and Friday nights from 5:30 to 7 p.m. as well as Abercrombie Field in Greenfield from 10 a.m. until 12:30.

Parents are reminded that eligibility for the league’s College Scholarship Program requires players to complete their three years of Babe Ruth playing time. The league does not interfere with school baseball.

For more information, contact Tina Crocker at 648-0124 or Joe Mignault at 774-3876.

Deerfield rec baseball

Deerfield residents ages 4 and 5 will have an opportunity to play baseball this spring.

The Smart Start Baseball program is a developmentally appropriate program that prepares children for organized baseball in a fun environment. The group will meet four times. Parents will work one-on-one with their child teaching them the basics of baseball: throwing, catching, batting and running.

A parent must attend every session with their child. Participants will receive a bat and a ball as well as a glove. Please wear sneakers and bring a water bottle with you to each session.

The program is for 4- and 5-year-olds (not in kindergarten) and their parents. It will run each Monday from April 23 until May 21 (not on May 7) from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Old Deerfield Ballfield. The cost is $40 and checks can be made payable to Town of Deerfield.

You must preregister for this program. To register, call the Deerfield Recreation Department at 665-1400 ext. 107 or email Sue Antonellis at suea@town.deerfield.ma.us
