GREENFIELD — Ahead of their planned one-day strike next week, the nurses will hold a “Patient Safety Vigil” at the Greenfield Town Common today, April 5, from 6 to 8 p.m.
“Baystate Franklin Medical Center is a community hospital, funded by public dollars, and our patients have a right to receive the high-quality care they pay for,” Donna Stern, head of the local nurses, said in a press release.
The strike is scheduled for April 11 and will come about a year and a half after negotiations first began between the hospital and the local chapter of the Massachusetts Nurses Association.
In response to the strike, Baystate is planning on bringing in traveling nurses to make sure there is no lapse in care at the Greenfield hospital.
Previously, the nurses planned a strike for Feb. 28 but postponed it as the talks continued between the two sides.
