Appalachian duo Sam Gleaves and Tyler Hughes will perform at the Mount Toby Friends Meeting, at 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63) in Leverett, on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Gleaves and Hughes play old time country music and newly written songs from the Appalachian mountains. Both natives of southwest Virginia, the two learned their craft from the region’s traditional musicians.

Gleaves and Hughes’ programs feature fiddle and banjo hoedowns, close mountain harmonies, stories of all kinds, country gospel songs, lonesome ballads and flatfooting — the percussive dancing of the Appalachians. As a duo, the two also perform contemporary songs that tell stories from today’s Appalachia.

The suggested donation is $10 to $25.
