The Greenfield grades 7 and 8 Suburban League basketball team won the 2018 Western Massachusetts Green and Blue Divisional Championship Saturday in Westfield with a 44-32 win over Frontier.

Greenfield had two big wins to reach the championship game, defeating Belchertown (13-3 record), 61-49, in the quarterfinals, then Pioneer (16-1 record), 65-50, in the semifinals. Frontier beat previously unbeaten South Hadley (17-0) in the semifinals to face Greenfield in the championship game.

David Carey scored 47 points in the three playoff games to lead the Greenfield offense, while Ryan Cote finished with 38 and Alex Carballo added 26. Bob Provost finished with 22 points, Sam Gibson finished with 18 and Drew Conant chipped in 13. Gabe Zaccheo and Maverick Ward each had big efforts on defense, while Nate Blanchard, Deon Brewington, Ryan Pulizari, Jordan Connolly, Tyler Podolski and Racquel Provost played well.

Greenfield finished with 51 assists and 96 rebounds in the three games.

YMCA Championships

Grayson Bowse and Emily Braverman each took home championships during the 2018 WMass YMCA League Championships over the weekend in Westfield.

Bowse won first place in the Platinum Division with first-place scores on the bars (8.6), floor (9.4), vault (9.25) and all-around (36.45), and a second-place score of 9.2 on the beam. Braverman won the Xcel Diamond championship with first-place scores in the beam (9.1), bars (8.45), floor (9.0), vault (8.5) and all-around (35.05).

The Greenfield team finished second in the Xcel Gold Division with a score of 102.55, and also took second in the Xcel Bronze (102.2) and third in the Xcel Silver (104.4). In the Junior Division, Mila Frantz was second on the vault (8.7) and was third on the bars (9.15), floor (8.8) and all-around (35.65).

In Level 3, Greenfield finished second as a team with 107.05 points. In the Child Division, Seneca Smith was crowned champion with wins on the beams (9.05), bars (9.2) and all-around (36.65), while placing third on the floor (9.0) and vault (9.4). Lydia MacMunn-Seaman placed second on the bars (9.05) and third on the beam (8.2) and all-around (35.00). Ava Garappolo was second on the beam (8.85) in the Jr. Division.

Zenani Himlin-Mayekiso won the bars (7.35), and was second on the floor (9.35), vault (8.5) and all-around (32.90) in Level 8, while Kendall Fox was third on the beam (8.1) and floor (8.4). Allyson Unaitis took third on the beam (8.5), floor (8.5) and all-around (33.05) in Level 7, while Anna Carlson-Belanger was third on the vault (8.9) in the Level 2 Sr. Division.

Ohia Dellert was the Level 1 Junior Division champion with wins on the bars (9.0) and all-around (36.05), a second on the floor (9.0), and third on the beam (8.9) and vault (9.15). In the Youth Division, Vallerie Bazemore placed fourth on the floor, Theresa Hamel fourth on the vault.

The Greenfield Minor League will hold its final registration day for the upcoming youth baseball season Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Lunt Field field house on Kenwood Street in Greenfield.

The league is open to boys and girls from Franklin County ages 7 to 12. Players must be 7 prior to Aug. 1 to be eligible. There are four divisions (Rookie, AA, AAA and Majors) and cost is $75. Montague Parks programs

The Montague Parks & Recreation Department has several upcoming programs for the spring season.

• Tee Ball — Open to children 4 through 6 and runs from April 21 through June 2 on Saturday mornings from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Cost is $35 for residents and $40 for non residents as of March 23, and $5 more after that.

• Rookie League — Open to children ages 7 through 9 and runs from April 21 through June 2 on Saturday mornings from 9 until 10:30. Features intra-squad games and coach-pitch. All players should bring their own gloves. Cost is $40 for residents and $45 for non-residents.

• Nipper League Softball — The Purple Panthers team. Open to girls ages 7 through 9. Runs early April until mid-June. Cost is $65 for residents and $70 for non-residents. All games are played at Murphy Park in Greenfield as part of the Greenfield Girls’ Softball League.

Deadline to register for all teams is March 30.
