Bolstered by a top-20 finish in the 800-meter run, Mahar Regional School junior Anna Wetherbee broke her own school record in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) Pentathlon Tuesday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Roxbury.
Wetherbee took 19th in the 800 meters, crossing with a time of 2 minutes, 37 seconds, for her best finish in any of the five events at the meet. She amassed a total of 2,033 points, putting her 64th overall in the final standings out of over 120 athletes.
Teammate Jordyn Berry also competed for the Senators, capturing 105th place overall with a final point total of 1,662.
Berry’s best finish came in the high jump, where she cleared 4 feet, 6 inches to earn a share of 49th place.
Belmont High School’s Anoush Krafian was the overall winner with a whopping total of 3,361 points.
NMH hockey wins
Senior Kyle Valiquette scored the game-winning goal, and Northfield Mount Hermon School marched on in the NEPSAC Large Schools Tournament Wednesday afternoon.
The top-seeded Hoggers advanced to the semifinals, picking up a 2-1 win over No. 8 Noble and Greenough School in a game played at Amherst College’s Orr Rink.
Eric Green had a big game in the win for NMH, which improved to 24-6-2 overall on the season. The Hoggers will play No. 5 Brunswick School, a 2-0 winner Wednesday over No. 4 Williston-Northampton School, in the semifinals Saturday at a time and place to be determined. The championship is set for Sunday at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.
Mt. Institute League
Deerfield Academy’s Kikka Giudici captured the girls’ race while NMH’s Aran Zecha won the boys’ race in the finale of the Mt. Institute Ski League Wednesday at Berkshire East Ski Resort.
NMH swept the team races, giving both teams regular-season titles in the process. Mohawk Trail Regional High School took second in the girls’ final season standings, followed by DA in third. The Big Green was second in the boys’ final standings with Eaglebrook School third.
Mohawk’s Ashley LaCross was the runner-up in Wednesday’s race, and she finished second on the season behind Giudici.
DA’s Valerie Hetherington was third overall in the season standings, with Mohawk’s Taylor Loomis fourth.
Zecha was the overall winner for the boys’ season standings, followed by DA’s Achille Sarachek and NMH teammate Isaac Foster.
NMH girls fall
On the road against the top-seeded team in the bracket, the NMH girls’ basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 49-40 loss to Worcester Academy Wednesday in the NEPSAC AA semifinals.
The fourth-seeded Hoggers finished its season with an impressive 19-6 overall mark.
Newt Guilbault registrations
The Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League will hold registrations tonight from 6 to 8 at the Turners Falls Police Station community room.
Sign-ups will also take place on March 10 from 8 to 9 a.m. at Turners Falls High School and tryouts will immediately follow from 9 to 11 a.m.
GGSL registrations
The Greenfield Girls Softball League will hold registrations on three days in March for the upcoming season.
Signups will take place on Saturday, March 10 and March 17 from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Elks Lodge.
The league is open to girls from any town ages 5 through 12.

Pioneer Valley Regional School is looking for a middle school baseball coach for the upcoming season.
