GREENFIELD — All Souls Church (399 Main St.) is addressing issues of Economic Justice this year. On Sunday, Jan. 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Dr. Stephen Martin will lead a service focused on health care, “The Most Shocking and Inhuman: Health Care Inequality and the Need for Social Justice.” Dr. Martin is a family physician at Barre Family Health Center, associate professor at the UMass. Medical School, and a member of the “Right Care Alliance.” He and his family live in Northfield.
Following the service, at noon in Parish Hall, will be a Health Care Round Table Discussion facilitated by Christophre Woods, on “Elder Health Care: The future of Medicare and Medicaid.” Dr. Martin will be joined by Al Norman, former director and advocate for the Massachusetts Home Care Association. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
The public is invited to both the service and the Round Table Discussion. Parking at public lot next to the library.
BERNARDSTON — Rev. Laurie Bilyeu will speak Sunday at Bernardston Unitarian Church at 11:30 a.m. on the topic, “60 and on, a Prelude.” This sermon will lead into next week’s discussion of our latest book read in common, “60 On Up.” The discussion on Feb. 4 will be led by Kathy Hale, an elder care services provided. The book addresses the joys and myths of aging today.
Syrian Refugees: A Talk, set for Feb. 18
GREENFIELD — “Syrian Refugees: Women and Children in Lebanon,” is the subject of a talk by Patricia Hynes of the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m., at Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square. Sponsored by The Interfaith Council of Franklin County.
NORTHFIELD — First Parish of Northfield, Unitarian will hold a Chalice Circle Sunday at 10 a.m., facilitated by Paul Bocko and Terry McKeon. The church is on the corner of Parker Avenue and Main Street.
St. Joseph student receives Sacrament of Confirmation
SHELBURNE FALLS — Michael Vincent Harrison, a student in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program at St. Joseph Parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Jan. 21.
Harrison has chosen St. John the Apostle as his new Christian name. This is the patron saint chosen by him to be his protector and guide. The celebration was officiated by the Rev. William H. Lunney.
DEERFIELD — “The Brick Church” Music Series at The First Church of Deerfield, 71 Old Main St., will present its third concert of the season on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. The Eclectic Arts Trio with Jean Jeffries, French horn, Aaron Lakota, oboe and English horn, and Clifton J. Noble Jr., piano and organ, will be performing music across the centuries and genres. Interspersed with classical fare will be arrangements from The American Songbook. Suggested donation: $10 to $20. SHELBURNE — The First Congregational Church of Shelburne is holding its Sunday services at Fellowship Hall (Little Mohawk Road, opposite the fire station) in January, February and March. Service and Sunday School are at 10 a.m.
The congregation is working on a challenge to accumulate 100 yards of food before Feb. 4, Super Bowl Sunday. The food will be donated to the Hilltown Food Pantry.
On Feb. 4, the church will hold a “Souper” Bowl which will include a potluck “Tail Gate Party” following the service. Wear apparel for your favorite team.
NORTHFIELD — Enjoy love songs, a singalong and a profusion of chocolate treate at the third annual Love and Chocolate concert, Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m., at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 147 Main St., Northfield.
