GREENFIELD — A new projected opening date for the in-works integrated health services center on Main Street has been pushed back.

The grand opening is now expected for April 1, after initially there were hopes it could open its dental services in November and its medical and behavioral services in early 2018.

The center is a joint effort between the Community Health Center of Franklin County and the Springfield-based Center for Human Development. The dream of the facility its architects have articulated is for it to be a one-stop shop for health care, like the old Sears and Roebuck store that once occupied the same space at 102 Main Street.

The reason for the delayed opening mostly has to do with logistics of getting state departments, like the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, to schedule inspections, Center for Human Development President and CEO Jim Goodwin said.

“Everything is moving and everything is going well,” Goodwin said. “It’s starting to look like something now. It’s beginning to start showing some of the attractiveness it’s going to have.”

Also holding up the project was an effort to repair the facade of the building in a historically accurate manner, Goodwin said. They were looking for the right brick for the facade so that it could be approved by the state’s historic commission, which is partly funding the project.

The Northwestern District Attorney Office moved out of a portion of the building in December, Goodwin said, allowing them to begin working on that section, too.
