GREENFIELD — When Trail TOC Diner owner Bonnie Brown was in college, she wrote a term paper on the Corner Cupboard restaurant’s owner in Greenfield “because that was the job I wanted,” Brown said. “That’s what I wanted to become.”

Now she’ll have that chance.

Brown will be closing Trail TOC on the Mohawk Trail in mid-February and opening a new restaurant at 204 Main St., where the old Corner Cupboard — and the current Brass Buckle — have been located.

Brass Buckle owners JD Hairston and Anika Balaconis recently announced they are closing their 6-year-old restaurant on Feb. 1.

Brown hopes to renovate the restaurant and reopen in March. She doesn’t yet know if the new restaurant will still be called “Trail TOC,” or if it will have a new name.

“We’re going to change it,” she said. “It’s going to be good for Greenfield.”

“After eight years, it’s sad to leave (Shelburne), but I’m happy to come here,” said Brown. “I’m working on menus right now, tweaking it a little.”

“It will be a new experience for me. I’ll be running a restaurant with eight employees instead of running one alone. For me, it’s a win-win situation.”

The “TOC” in the diner’s name stands for “Touch of Class Catering,” a business that restaurant owner Bonnie Brown has run for at least 20 years. The breakfast-and-lunch restaurant, in the Arrowhead Shops plaza on the Mohawk Trail, will remain open at least through the first two weeks of February, Brown said. The restaurant is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
