NORTHFIELD — Selectboard Chairman Jack Spanbauer stepped down as chairman during a Nov. 14 meeting, and Tracy Rogers was appointed as the new chairwoman.
When reached by phone, Spanbauer declined to comment on his reason for stepping down, saying it was a personal decision. Spanbauer has been chairman for the past four and a half years.
Spanbauer will remain on the Selectboard, though he said he’s considering not running for re-election next spring, having been on the board for 16 years.
“That’s probably my limit,” Spanbauer said. “It’ll be hard to leave. It’s been an honor to serve. I’ve met a lot of nice people and it’s been rewarding to see a lot of projects move forward. … I’ll miss it, but at the same time you can see when it’s time to take a break.”
NORTHFIELD — Cameron’s Winery was granted permission to extend its hours.
New hours approved by the Selectboard are: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays through Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Leslie Cameron, who owns the business with her husband Paul, said that previously, the winery has been closed on Mondays, open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Cameron said that though the business may not always be open so late, she and Paul wanted the option to serve later, primarily on evenings when they offer wine and cider dinners. They also wanted to be open on Mondays when customers request to use the space for celebrations.
“I don’t see us routinely being open like that, I don’t think we could do that,” Cameron told the Selectboard. “But we’d like to be able to have that option so if the occasion comes up we’d be able to do it.”
Police Chief Robert Leighton said he had no concerns with the extended hours. The Selectboard agreed the new hours would take effect immediately, and would be communicated to the Alcohol Beverages Control Commission (ABCC).
The board also approved allowing Cameron’s Winery to pour until 11:55 p.m. on New Year’s Eve for the traditional toast.
NORTHFIELD — The Selectboard appointed Alex Pirozhkov to the full-time position of police patrolman during a Nov. 14 meeting.

“I was on the hiring committee and Alex was very impressive,” said newly appointed Selectboard Chairwoman Tracy Rogers. “I think it’s a good choice.”
