BERNARDSTON – Stephanie Ciccarello of the Green Committee announced a plan to convert town lights to highly efficient LED fixtures during a Selectboard meeting Wednesday.
The project would use Green Communities funding to replace fixtures, or in some cases just light bulbs, in Town Hall, Cushman Library, the Powers Institute, the Fire Station, the Highway Department and the Transfer Station.
Andrew Glace, president of G&L Energy Services, said doing so would save an estimated $6,174.56 in energy costs, reducing annual kilowatt hour usage by 27 percent. Given that LED lights provide between 50,000 to 100,000 hours of operation compared to fluorescent bulbs, which last around 24,000 hours, Glace estimated maintenance savings for the town to be around $3,000 per year.
