GREENFIELD — The People’s Pint on Federal Street will hold a hurricane relief fundraiser for the Food Bank of Puerto Rico on Tuesday, Nov. 7, night.
Staff will donate half their tips between 4 and 10 p.m., and the brewpub will also make a donation. People’s Pint cook Andres Collazo-Otto, who came up with the idea, said he also plans to donate an entire day’s wages to the fundraiser.
Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico on Sept. 20, leaving at least 48 people dead and most of the island without power.
“I have family down there, and I just kind of felt so helpless after the hurricane hit,” Collazo-Otto said. “It’s the long term that we have to look at — as much as people are donating food and money off the bat, a month in, six months in, we still have to help.”
He said he has heard from his family on the island, who live about half an hour south of San Juan and still do not have power.
The Pint’s fundraiser will also include raffles with various items, including gift cards to a number of local restaurants and businesses.
“I work at such a good local spot, they help as much as they can, so I was like, ‘Let’s try to do something,’” Collazo-Otto said.
He said he chose the Food Bank of Puerto Rico because all of the donations will go directly to help residents on the island.
People who want to drop off donations can do so at the bar.
