Peter Carey and Ben Litskoski took the top two spots as Frontier Regional School defeated both McCann Technical High School (15-50) and Granby High School (19-40) in a Tuesday boys’ cross country tri-meet in Granby.

Frontier ran without its top two finishers — Carsten Carey and Alex Sharp — who were out with an illness.

Carey won the 3.1-mile race in 19:23. Litskoski was two seconds back in 19:25. Dan Dejnak finished fourth in 20:30, and Brandyn Robinson was fifth in 20:37. George Balis finished seventh in 20:48, and Phaelon Koski was eighth in 21:15.

Mohawk 25, FC Tech 30

Gateway 26, Mohawk 32

Gateway 23, FC Tech 28 — Sohan Tyner led the field Tuesday, crossing first overall for Franklin County Technical School with a time of 19:01 in a tri-meet with Mohawk Trail Regional High School and Gateway Regional High School in Huntington.

Gateway swept the meet with a pair of tight wins, while Mohawk edged FC Tech, 25-30, in the battle of local teams.

Dennis Simmons led Mohawk with a third-place finish in 19:54, while teammate Cullen Brown was right behind in fourth place (20:49). Guy Rice Lesure also cracked the top 10 for the Warriors, taking seventh place in 21:30.

Martin Given was fifth overall for the Eagles in 21:15, while Scott Martin grabbed eighth position in 22:52.

Pope Francis 18, Greenfield 37

Monson 20, Greenfield 43 — Tyssen LaBombard was the only Greenfield High School runner to finish in the top 10 Tuesday as Grenfield suffered a pair of independent cross country losses to Pope Francis High School (18-37) and Monson High School (20-43) at Whiting Reservoir in Holyoke.

Bryce Ordonez of Pope Francis won the 2.72-mile race in 15:24, while teammates Daniel Markey (15:25) and Matt Ashe (15:26) finished seconds back. LaBombard finished fourth overall to represent the Green Wave, crossing the finish line in 15:44.

Mahar 15, Hampden 45

Hampshire 20, Mahar 39 — Sebastian Shaw finished third overall Tuesday afternoon in 19:17 and Mahar Regional School was able to earn a split of a tri-meet at Forest Park in Springfield.

Mahar defeated Hampden Charter School of Science, 15-45, but suffered a 20-39 loss to Hampshire Regional High School.

Ash Shaw finished fifth in the meet in 20:09.

Girls’ meets

Frontier 17, McCann 44

Frontier 23, Granby 36 — Fiona Ferry and Greyson Young captured first and second Tuesday and Frontier defeated McCann Tech (17-44) and Granby (23-36) in a girls’ tri-meet in Granby.

Ferry won the race in 24:06, and Young was second in 24:40. Emily Laus was fifth in 25:41 for Frontier Seventh-graders Fiona Howes (26:56) and Angelina Egland (27:25) finished eighth and ninth respectively in the win.

Greenfield 20, Monson 35

Greenfield 22, Pope Francis 35 — Four Greenfield girls placed in the top six overall and the Green Wave defeated both Monson (20-35) and Pope Francis (22-35) in an independent girls’ cross country race Tuesday at Whiting Reservoir in Holyoke.

Emily Boutin won the race for Pope Francis in 16:24, but Greenfield’s Amy O’Sullivan (17:08) and Jamie Day (17:54) finished second and third. Courtney Danielsen (18:39) and Jenna Silk (18:51) finished fifth and sixth for the Green Wave.

Mohawk 16, Gateway 43 — Meghan Davis continued to dominate the competition, cruising to a first-place finish by over four minutes in powering visiting Mohawk Trail Regional High School to a 16-43 decision over Gateway Regional High School in an independent girls’ cross country meet Tuesday in Huntington.

Davis traversed the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 31 seconds, with teammate Erica Szewczyk the runner-up in 25:09. Caitlin Upton took third for Mohawk in 26:23, while Carli Cusimano (fourth, 26:27), Riley Hayward (sixth, 28:51) and Kaitlyn Bisnette (seventh, 29:37) all finished in the top seven.
