Hayden Herk’s goal with five minutes remaining in the game lifted Athol High School over Granby High School, 2-1, in a boys’ soccer game Saturday in Athol.
Herk’s game-winner came off a feed from Bryce King and helped the Red Raiders improve to 6-3-0 on the season.
Granby struck first 18 minutes into the game when Dylan Moriarty scored off a pass from Max King. Athol netted the equalizer three minutes before halftime as Parker Deleo scored on an assist from Dennis St. Jean.
Athol outshot the Rams, 18-6. Jordan Carrasquillo stopped three shots to pick up the victory, while Ryan Walz made five saves in the loss.
Athol 3, Gardner 2 — Ally Raymond scored a pair of goals Saturday and Athol defeated Gardner, 3-2, in an independent girls’ soccer game in Athol.
Granby led 2-1 at halftime but the Red Raiders (4-5-0) came back in the second half. Rozlyn Nelson added a goal in the win, while Crista Jillson and Amber Mahony each had an assist.
Becca Lashua scored both goals for Gardner.
Peyton Parker stopped five shots in the win.
E. Longmeadow 3, Athol 0 — Emily Chapdelaine, Caitlin Hogan and Alexis Pfalzgraf each scored in the second half as East Longmeadow High School got past Athol, 3-0, in an independent field hockey game Saturday in Athol.
Emily French made four saves in the shutout.
Ryley Pond finished with eight saves in the Athol net.
Athol 3, PV Christian 1 — Julia Ramos had six aces, four kills and 12 assists to lead Athol to a 26-24, 25-13, 23-25, 25-12 win over Pioneer Valley Christian Academy in an independent girls’ volleyball match Saturday in Athol.
Page Truehart added seven kills and four aces for the Red Raiders (3-6), while Abbie Roberts and Alexis Carrasquillo each had five kills and three aces. Hannah Lajoie added three kills and five aces, and Haylie Baker had four aces.
