Issac Chanthavongsa found the back of net five times, including three in the first half, and visiting Hampden Charter School of Science picked up a 5-3 win over Franklin County Technical School in a Tri-County League boys’ soccer game Wednesday in Turners Falls.

Chanthavongsa, who now has 18 goals on the season, scored in the eighth, 17th, 21st, 53rd and 55th minute for the first-place Wolves (4-2, 3-0).

Jovanni Ruggiano scored in the first half to get FC Tech (4-3-1, 1-1-1) on the board. The Eagles added an own-goal off a cross from Ruggiano, while Rueben Galvez buried a penalty kick in the second half to finish off the scoring.

Grayson Funk recorded 13 saves in net for Tech, while Hampden Charter goalkeeper Gabe Pagan recorded 14 saves.

Tech travels to Duggan Academy for another TCL contest Friday.

Charlemont 4, Buxton 0 — Nacho de la Torre, Hendrik Pepermans, Tucker Zakon-Anderson and Harper Walker-West all tallied, and the Academy at Charlemont blanked Buxton School, 4-0, in a River Valley Athletic League boys’ soccer game Wednesday.

Kyle Nitzsche had five saves in the win, while Zakon-Anderson and Pepermans (two) added assists.

Girls’ soccer

Mahar 12, Drury 0 — Elysha Bedard registered two goals, and 11 players found the back of the net as Mahar Regional School thumped Drury High School, 12-0, in an independent girls’ soccer game Wednesday in Orange.

Mahar (5-0-3), which stormed out to a 10-0 halftime lead, also received goals from Mollie Burke, Hannah Paul, Tori Tenney, Delaney Parker, Kianna Reilly, Katie Cleveland, Emma Currier, Micalyn Mailloux, Emma Savoy and Alexis Mainville-Schaeffer. Paul added three assists while Tenney and Amanda Calderon had two assists apiece.

The Senators finished with a commanding 35-0 edge in shots. They travel to Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School today.

Four Rivers 5, Putney 1 — Anna Goldstein scored four goals, including three in the first half, and Four Rivers Charter School cruised to a 5-1 win over Putney School in a River Valley Athletic League girls’ soccer game Wednesday in Greenfield.

Maddie Soulia assisted on one of Goldstein’s tallies, while Joy Bohonowicz finished off the scoring with a second-half tally to account for the 5-1 final.

Goalkeeper Alouette Batteau made three saves in net for the Otters (3-2), which host BART Charter School on Friday.

Charlemont 8, Burton 1 — Calla Jones’ three goals propelled the Academy at Charlemont to an 8-1 win over Buxton School Wednesday in a River Valley Athletic League girls’ soccer game.

Emily Comeaux scored twice for Charlemont, while Anna Pisinski-Cutler, Izzy Brenizer and Elaina Gibb-Buursma also tallied in the win.

Field hockey

Frontier 6, Westfield 0 — Olivia Vecellio continued to figure heavily into the Frontier Regional School scoring load Wednesday, as the sophomore scored three goals and assisted on another in the host Red Hawks’ convincing 6-0 win over Westfield High School in a Valley League field hockey game in South Deerfield.

Vecellio and Kathryn Mason scored first-half goals to stake Frontier (6-1-1, 5-0-0) to a 2-0 lead at the break.

Vecellio tallied two more times from there, while Lilli Powers and Lily Spencer also scored goals for the Hawks. McKenzie Patterson and Lauren MacDonald registered assists.

“Overall it was another nice team effort,” said Frontier coach Missy Mahar, whose team held a 36-2 edge in shots with goalkeeper Skyla Burniske earning the team’s fourth shutout of the year and third in a row.

Frontier hosts West Springfield High School Tuesday night at 7 in South Deerfield.

Girls’ volleyball

Turners 3, E. Longmeadow 0 — Undefeated Turners Falls High School kept right on rolling Wednesday night.

The Powertown moved to a perfect 9-0 on the season, dismantling visiting East Longmeadow High School for an impressive 25-7, 25-19, 25-16 sweep in an independent girls’ volleyball match in Turners Falls.

“They played really well,” lauded Turners Falls coach Kelly Liimatainen of her team. “They didn’t let anything hit the floor. The energy was really high. I told them they just set the expectations a little higher with that performance.”

Setter Sienna Dillensneider filled up the stat sheet with 13 assists, 11 digs, six kills and six aces, while Taylor Murphy posted a team-high 10 kills to go with an ace and six digs.

Adrianna DiMaio paced the back row defense with 18 digs, while Emma Miner (four assists, two kills, two aces, six digs) and Abby Loynd (three kills, one ace, four digs) also played well.

Turners travels to South Hadley High School for another independent match Monday night.

Lenox 3, Mohawk 0 — Lexi Mazza put down 11 kills, but visiting Mohawk Trail Regional High School dropped a 25-16, 25-7, 25-19 decision to host Lenox Memorial High School in an independent match played Wednesday night in Lenox.

Mazza also finished with two blocks and five digs for the Warriors (3-4). Ashley Reynolds recorded eight assists and a pair of digs, while Jordan Rice notched six digs and added a kill.

BomBee Lahart totaled 12 kills to pace the offense for Lenox (7-0).

Mohawk travels to Easthampton High School Monday night.

Mahar 3, Putnam 1 — Maeve Powell and Ava Santana combined for 17 kills, and visiting Mahar Regional School won a tight four-set match on the road against Putnam Vocational Technical Academy Wednesday in Springfield.

The Senators moved to 7-2 on the year with the 27-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-20 independent victory.

Sophia Smith registered seven kills in the win, while Aria Flematti totaled 12 assists. Carissa Johnson finished with three aces, while Lauren Henne had a team-high nine digs. Powell chipped in three blocks.

Mahar hosts Sabis International Charter School on Tuesday.

Wahconah 3, Pioneer 0 — Fran Gigliotti dished out 18 assists, and visiting Wahconah Regional High School swept Pioneer Valley Regional School, 25-7, 25-16, 25-11, in an independent girls’ volleyball match Wednesday in Northfield.

Emma Parkington led Wahconah with seven kills, while Kelsey LaFreniere added six.

Pioneer (1-6) hosts Mount Everett Regional School Friday night in Northfield.

Golf

Greenfield 23, Turners 1 — On the strength of a 40 from medalist Ryan Cote, Greenfield High School won its first match of the season after soaring to a 23-1 victory over rival Turners Falls High School in a Bi-County East golf match Wednesday at the Country Club of Greenfield.

Cote won four points in the No. 1 spot for the Green Wave (1-4, 1-4), while teammate Gabe Larouche was close behind at No. 3 after a round of 41 (four points). Jake Cote also won four points at No. 4 thanks to a 45, while Danny Provost (46), Connor Pedigree (46) and Hunter Roberts (49) made it six Greenfield golfers with sub-50 rounds.

Turners Falls (0-8, 0-6) was led by Kyle Kucinski’s 52 at No. 1. Brian Poirier scored the lone point for the Powertown at No. 2, shooting 55.

Greenfield travels to Ware High School today while Turners heads to play Monson.

Pioneer 14, Chicopee 10 — Kyle Menard shot 39 to earn medalist honors, and Pioneer Valley Regional School picked up its second win of the season thanks to a 14-10 victory over Chicopee High School in an independent golf match Wednesday at Northfield Golf Course.

Maynard won all four points in the No. 1 spot for Pioneer (2-8). Garrett Cote (40) and Jake Fuller (44) shot their lowest rounds of the year in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. The tandem won 7½ out of a possible eight points.

Pioneer hosts Southwick-Tolland Regional High School on Friday.

Southwick 24, Mahar 0 — Corey Sanderson had the low round of the day for Mahar Regional School with a 49, but visiting Southwick-Tolland Regional High School swept to a 24-0 independent golf victory Wednesday at Ellinwood Country Club in Athol.

Treyton Pasakinskas and Tucker Ninteau shot rounds of 52 for the Senators (5-4), while Andrew Finch carded a 57.

Southwick (12-0) had all six golfers shoot 42 or better.
