Connor Bagdon beat a defender on the outside and ripped a low shot that was deflected into the net for an own-goal in the 46th minute, and that tally proved to be the difference as Frontier Regional School edged Springfield Central High School, 1-0, in a Moriarty Division boys’ soccer game Tuesday in Springfield.

“We dominated for long stretches of the game but we missed some chances we normally score on, especially in the first half,” explained Frontier coach Dale Totman.

Frontier (4-0-2, 3-0) remained atop the division with the victory, its fourth consecutive win. The Red Hawks held a 15-7 advantage in shots, with goalkeeper Peter Bronke making four saves to earn the shutout.

“I’m proud of our defense,” lauded Totman. “We didn’t give (Central) too much.”

Frontier hosts Chicopee Comprehensive High School Friday.

Hopkins 4, Athol 1 — A big second half from Hopkins Academy turned a 1-1 game into a 4-1 victory over host Athol High School Tuesday night under the lights at O’Brien Field in a Schmid Division boys’ soccer game.

Ben Anderson scored two goals for Hopkins (5-1, 4-0), including a penalty kick five minutes into the second half that broke a 1-1 tie and staked the Hawks to a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

“Hopkins turned up the physical play about 20 minutes in and our guys didn’t respond to the way the game was going,” explained Athol coach Dave King. “We controlled play for the first 20 minutes but couldn’t keep it going.”

Athol (2-2, 1-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Hayden Herk scored an unassisted goal.

Hopkins tied it in the 27th minute on an Anderson goal, and the Hawks put things out of reach with the three tallies after intermission.

Athol goalkeeper Jordan Carrasquillo recorded 10 saves, as Hopkins held a 17-11 edge in shots.

Athol travels to Narragansett Regional High School Thursday.

Sci-Tech 2, Mohawk 0 — Nehemias Ramirez and Nevon Montaque scored first-half goals, and host Springfield School of Science & Technology captured a 2-0 victory over Mohawk Trail Regional High School Tuesday night in a McGrath Division boys’ soccer game at Berte Field in Springfield.

Mohawk (0-4-1, 0-2-1) put six shots on net in the loss.

The Warriors host Franklin County Technical School today.

Mahar 1, Smith Academy 0 — Jack Temple’s rocket of a goal midway through the second half was the difference, as Mahar Regional School stayed perfect in the McGrath Division boys’-soccer wars, thanks to a 1-0 win over Smith Academy Tuesday in Hatfield.

The Senators (4-1, 4-0) held a tight 9-8 edge in shots on goal, with goalkeeper Alex Gurganus recording eight saves to pick up the shutout.

“We’re still evolving defensively,” began Mahar coach Dan Guertin. “We’ll be a work in progress there for a little while longer but the defense got the job done today.”

Mahar travels to play at Mohawk Trail Regional High School Friday.

Sabis 7, Greenfield 0 — Nathan Valois and Elijah Nixon scored 10 seconds apart in the 10th minute of the game and Sabis International Charter School went on to defeat Greenfield High School, 7-0, in a McGrath League boys’ soccer game Tuesday in Greenfield.

Valois scored 9:13 into the game, and Nixon scored 10 seconds later to get the offense rolling.

Jovan Wallace had a goal and an assist in the win, while Erick Bass and Chase Lamagdelaine each added one goal.

Alex Carbello-Romero made 16 saves in the Green Wave net.

FC Tech 5, St. Mary’s 5 — Goals from Reuben Galvez and Tony Barilone staked Franklin County Technical School to a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the game, but the visiting Eagles were forced to ultimately settle for a 5-5 draw with St. Mary’s Parish School Tuesday in a Tri-County League boys’ soccer game in Westfield.

Jovanni Ruggiano had two goals for FC Tech (1-2-1, 0-0-1), which led 5-3 at halftime but allowed the host Saints to score twice in the second half to earn the tie. Kyle Brunelle also scored for the Eagles.

“I’ve got to give (St. Mary’s) credit for not putting their heads down after falling behind 2-0 in the first five minutes,” lauded FC Tech coach Kurt Richardson.

Tech stays on the road to play at Mohawk Trail Regional High School today at 4.

Four Rivers 9, BART 2 — Avani Rivard and Mica Van Iderstine scored twice each on Tuesday and Four Rivers Charter School dumped Berkshire School of Art & Technology in a River Valley Athletic League boys’ soccer game in Greenfield.

Evan Leaf, Milou Riggoloud, Muiris Lonergan, Henry Zwart and Josh Gibson each added a goal for the Otters, who improved to 2-0-1 on the season.

Four Rivers travels to Academy at Charlemont today at 3.

Girls’ match

Eagle Hill 3, Four Rivers 0 — Alouette Batteau recorded 12 saves, including nine in the second half, but Four Rivers Charter School dropped a 3-0 decision to Eagle Hill School in a River Valley Athletic League girls’ soccer game Tuesday in Hardwick.

Sylvia Cabral played well defensively for Four Rivers, which dropped to 2-1 overall. The Otters plays Dublin School on Friday.
