GREENFIELD — A rollover accident on Interstate 91 southbound past Exit 26 backed up traffic for miles Wednesday while crews cleared away debris.

The accident happened after 3 p.m. near the Greenfield-Deerfield line. According to State Police from the Shelburne Barracks, a box truck pulling a bobcat rolled over, blocking both lanes. No one was hurt.

Traffic was brought to a stand still for hours. Police directed all cars off at Exit 26. The state Department of Transportation brought in a few electronic signs warning of delays.

Cones were set up, and dozens of drivers could be seen making U-turns to the northbound lane.

“State Police are detouring motorists onto (Routes) 5 and 10 south through Deerfield. Therefore, 5 and 10 is a mess and backed up; should be like that for another hour or so,” warned Deerfield Police Department in a statement on Facebook. “If you can take a side road or delay your trip it’s probably a good idea.”

By 6 p.m., the road had been cleared and reopened. The accident is currently under investigation.
