COLRAIN — Athol photographer Dale Monette will bring historic photos of the five towns flooded to make the Quabbin Reservoir in the 1930s and his own photos, some of matching sites, in a program called “Quabbin Then and Now” at the Colrain Historical Society meeting, on Thursday, July 13, in the Stacy Barn behind the Pitt House on Main Road in Colrain. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. following a meeting at 7:00. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend. For more information call Belden Merrims at 624-3453.
COLRAIN — Mark Thibodeau is now Selectboard chairman. Eileen Sauvageau is the board’s vice-chair, and Jack Cavolick is now the board’s clerk for the new fiscal year.
COLRAIN — The state has sent Colrain a first installment of $610,000 for its Last Mile broadband grant, and the town is reviewing a contract for Westfield Gas & Electric Co. to construct its broadband network.
According to Town Coordinator Kevin Fox, the newly renamed Last Mile Committee is reviewing the contract this week, then it will go to the town’s lawyer and the Selectboard for approval. He said they hope to have the contract signed by the end of the month. Town officials are hoping that Colrain’s broadband network will go online in 2019.
BUCKLAND — The Buckland Historical Society will hold an open house in historic buildings on July 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Buckland Historical Society Museum, a former school house which now houses three floors of artifacts and town records, is located at 20 Upper St., in Buckland Center.
The Wilder Homestead, a furnished 1775 saltbox with five fireplaces, a 1779 English barn and a shoemaker shop, is located at 129 Route 112 in Buckland Center.
