C.S. Lewis Study Center to hold summer seminars

NORTHFIELD — The C.S. Lewis Study Center is hosting a series of summer seminars starting Tuesday, July 11.

According to a release from the C.S. Lewis Study Center, in the first seminar, called “Legacy of Lewis: Through the Wardrobe,” Scott B. Key will lead an examination of C.S. Lewis’ seven books in “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, analyzing them in light of Lewis’ educational background in medieval studies, philosophy and theology.

The seminar involves two sessions on Tuesday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 18, both at 7 p.m. According to the release, participation at both sessions is highly recommended, but not necessary as each stands alone.

Key, a professor of philosophy, is a contributing essayist to “Contemporary Perspectives on C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Abolition of Man,’” “History, Philosophy, Education and Science” in 2017, and “C.S. Lewis and the Arts: Creativity in the Shadowlands” in 2013.

The second seminar, titled “Seated: A Workshop in Stillness for Busy People,” will be held Sunday, July 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. According to the release, it will serve as an introduction to a style of meditation grounded in the biblical wisdom tradition. In the spirit of “The Practice of the Presence of God,” presenter Brad Davis understands not everyone has a lot of free time to devote to pursuing a deeper connection with God.

Davis is an award-winning poet and educator who serves as dean of faculty care at The Stony Brook School in New York, the release states. He has led workshops in spirituality and poetry on the East Coast and in England.

All seminars will be held at the C.S. Lewis Study Center, located at the corner of Main and Moody streets. The suggested donation is $5 per session. For more information or to register, email Mary Key at mkey@cslewis.org.
