NORTHFIELD — The owner of a Hungarian pointer is asking residents of Northfield and Erving to keep their eyes peeled for his missing dog named Eli, who disappeared from a training session in Northfield Saturday.
According to a press release, Eli became separated from a group of dogs during a training session and was last seen in the vicinity of 282 Millers Falls Road in Northfield.
Eli’s owner, Edwin Naval of Stratford, Conn., thinks Eli is still in the area, citing a report of a possible sighting in Erving, the release states. He believes Eli is between the Connecticut River and the forested land to the east.
According to the release, Eli is 2½1/2 years old, weighs about 53 pounds, is brown in color, and is a Vizsla, a medium-sized breed of Hungarian sporting dog that are bred to work in the field, forest or water.
Naval has notified police and local shelters, and, with the help of volunteers, has been searching the area since Saturday. Naval said Eli is friendly, but asks that residents contact him or local trainer Andrew Campbell rather than attempting a rescue themselves.
“I appreciate anything that anyone in the area can do to help,” Naval said.
